The Jersey City LGBTQ+ Pride Festival just celebrated its 21st Anniversary. While it is now larger in both attendance and footprint than it has ever been before, its growth pattern was not one of exponential growth. Its growth has followed a fluctuating pattern during the last eleven years, with downturns resulting from changes in organizers twice during that period, and then after a period of stability and growth, the devastating impact of COVID-19. What hasn’t changed over time is the essential mission of the Jersey City LGBTQ+ Pride Festival which is to build community through social, cultural, and artistic events that celebrate and honor our past while helping to create our future. At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to identify the importance of establishing a mission, working with the community to create a purpose beyond the mission, and having a unified vision.
